The Oracle and the Therapist

Holding space for both the healer and the human within me and using therapy as a sacred tool in my spiritual evolution in this story the oracle and the therapist

There comes a point on the spiritual path where intuition, signs, and inner knowing can only take you so far. You can pull cards, read symbols, decode synchronicities, and still find yourself face‑to‑face with emotions you can’t spiritually “perform” your way out of.

For years, I relied on my inner oracle, the part of me that could sense, interpret, and intuit my way through anything. But when life cracked open in ways I couldn’t bypass, I realised that even the most awakened soul sometimes needs a witness. Not a guide from the unseen, but a grounded human presence who can hold the mirror steady when you can’t see yourself clearly.

This is the story of how therapy disrupted my spiritual performance, revealed the truth beneath my resilience, and helped me reclaim parts of myself I didn’t know I had abandoned.

Emotional Honesty vs. Spiritual Performance

The subtle pressure to “have it all together” as a spiritually aware person has been heavy to carry lately. Sure, we know about shadow work, healing trauma, whether that be in this life or ancestral.

Many of us growing up, myself included, were witnesses to different parenting styles that shaped how we grew into adults. For some of us, it was good, safe and happy. For others, it was not what we thought it would be, negative, destructive, pressure to perform or be perfect.

Our environments became the gilded cage of regulating our emotions. We either learned to open the door and walk free of the cage, or we stayed trapped in the cage because the expectations and conditions weighed us down.

In my experience, I was in and out of that cage, trying to make everyone around me happy, trying to act as if I had it together, in fact I have become so good at performing it now that it takes a great deal of awareness to know what is occurring.

I have perfection down to an art form, being a Virgo. Recently, this perfection became a tool for control, and once again, I was performing more for my own ego than anyone else. The burnout of this farce was where emotional honesty surfaced.

I realised I wasnt okay, the last year had to be one of the hardest years to date in my 48 years of living on this planet. I needed help, more importantly, I had to ask for help. I sought out a therapist, and this is how therapy disrupted that illusion beautifully.

The illusion was that all was well in my world, and I could “handle it. I could keep being resilient and perserver with the challenges I faced. When I was really running from myself and my emotions.

Why Awareness Isn’t the Whole Equation

The role of somatic witnessing and not just being self-aware is important to note when it comes to our spiritual growth. It is the practice of observing your body’s sensations, reactions, and emotional signals without trying to fix, judge, or override them.

It’s the moment you pause and say:

“What is my body telling me right now?”

“Where is this emotion living in me?”

“What happens if I stay with this sensation instead of escaping it?”

Using somatic witness actually develops and builds self-awareness because the body always tells us the truth before the mind does. What it is not is spiritual bypassing

This looks like patterns you’ve been unconsciously repeating, such as:

• You recognise when you’re in fight, flight, freeze, or fawn

• You catch the moment your intuition whispers “no”

• You feel the difference between fear and truth

• You understand your boundaries before they’re crossed

The body becomes a mirror for your inner world. Those of us who are spiritually awakened, the mind, especially if we are naturally very logical, can easily get swept into symbolism, signs, or narratives. The body howeve,r stays anchored in what’s real.

Why It’s Essential for Spiritual Healing

Essentially, it regulatesthe nervous system. I mentioned before that it can, when practised, prevent spiritual bypassing. You can’t “love and light” your way out of a sensation your body is still holding. Witnessing forces you to stay with what’s real.

It integrates trauma instead of recycling it. Trauma lives in the nervous system, not the mind. When you witness your body, you give stuck energy a pathway to move.

It reconnects you to your intuition. Intuition is felt in the gut, chest, throat, skin or the sacral for those who may be aware of their human design. Somatic witnessing strengthens those channels.

It restores your sense of safety when you witness your sensations without abandoning yourself. Your body learns: “I’m not alone in this. I’m safe with myself.”

It aligns your spiritual insights with your lived experience. Awakening isn’t just cosmic, it’s cellular. Somatic witnessing bridges the two.

The Shame of Needing Help (and How We Unlearn It)

Not only did witnessing my emotions make room for more healing, so did having for a time weekly conversations with my therapist. That space became a sounding board that didnt judge me. It became a river where I could pour all of my emotions that I had held inside and let them float away.

It helped me recognise that not asking for help became a pattern, one shaped by years of being independent for so long. I felt let down by those who I thought would support me, and that created a lack of trust. The shame came from believing I “should” know how to heal myself through everything.

Each session became a place of deconstructing the guilt that surfaced when I refused to ask for help. I had it in my head for a long time that I could heal myself, especially because I could hold space for others so easily in my own client sessions. I came to the realisation that when the “spiritual path” doesn’t feel enough its okay and necessary to seek guidance.

Synchronicity in the Session Room

Because I found myself drowning in my emotions, I was in the dark and could not see outside of myself. In sessions, I found that in hindsight were synchronicities. The healing space I gave myself reflected back to me common spiritual themes, like oracle decks, when my therapist asked me to draw a card from an oracle deck, or it was reflected back to me in metaphysical language, the way the unseen speaks, such as intuitive hits, symbols, numerology or archetypes.

Reclaiming the Title ‘Healer’ While Still Healing

Finding myself in the healing process doesn’t invalidate my ability to hold space for others, to create courses or content. It is the foundation that allows me to do that because of what I have lived through.

Sessions that peeled away the shame and guilt showed me I could still be a “healer” in my own right while also navigating my own healing as a consciously awakened soul.

Neither do I believe those who say they are “healed”. With decades of generational trauma, the complexity of trauma, lineage, and human experience.

Healing is not linear, it is ongoing, layered, and not a finish line to reach. to process, and unless you have come to earth and incarnated as a new soul like the rainbow children, I find it hard to comprehend anyone being fully healed. If this were the case, wouldn't this mean they have reached enlightenment?

Final Thoughts

Healing is rarely a straight line, and it’s never a performance. It’s a living, breathing process that asks us to be honest with ourselves in ways spirituality alone can’t always reach.

The oracle within us offers insight, intuition, and meaning, but the therapist offers grounding, reflection, and accountability. Together, they create a bridge between the mystical and the human, the symbolic and the somatic, the cosmic and the painfully real.

What I’ve learned is that awakening doesn’t exempt us from needing support. It doesn’t make us immune to burnout, grief, or emotional overwhelm. And it certainly doesn’t mean we must heal alone. The spiritual path is richer, deeper, and more sustainable when we allow ourselves to be both the healer and the one who needs healing.

If anything, the real awakening is recognising that both can coexist, and that neither diminishes the other.
